    How to make random teams

    1. Type or paste your names, one per line. Commas work too.
    2. Pick the number of teams, or switch to people per team.
    3. Press Make teams. Not happy? Press it again for a fresh draw.

Why use a random team picker?

Picking captains who choose players one by one is slow, and it always leaves someone picked last. A random draw is quick, fair and nobody can argue with it. Teachers use it to mix up groups so students work with new classmates, and it is a handy way to split players for five-a-side, quiz nights, escape rooms or office hackathons.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are the teams really random?

Yes. The names are shuffled with a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, then dealt out one by one like cards. Every arrangement is equally likely.

What happens when the names do not divide evenly?

The teams stay as balanced as possible: sizes never differ by more than one person. With 10 people and 3 teams you get teams of 4, 3 and 3.

Can I split by team size instead of team count?

Yes. Switch to “People per team” and enter the size you want, for example 4. The generator works out how many teams that makes and balances the leftovers.

Are my names saved or uploaded?

Nothing is uploaded. Your list is saved only in this browser so it is still there next time, and you can clear it at any time.

How many names can I add?

Up to 500 names, one per line or separated by commas.
